What you see is what you get here, but in a good way! You can tell from the images themselves that this is a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, going so far as to name all the characters on the screen in funny and interesting ways. There’s Tommy, Funky Junior, the scatter hen, and many other elements that are ripped from the pages of the wonderful comics, or from a screen near you. Although they have not officially licensed anything here, that level of quality is present, and we commend them for that reason.
The way the game plays is also a joy, with more coin sizes than you’ll find anywhere else, and lots of bonus features, such as the free spins feature. We actually enjoyed playing the game quite a bit, having gone in with very low expectations given the quality of the art style. Despite that, we were thoroughly impressed, and found ourselves sitting down for a lot longer than we had anticipated, being sucked in quite right away by how it all came together!
What They Could Have Improved
As much as we like the game, there are still a lot of things that could’ve done better in our book. The quality of the art style for example, is very expressive, but they could help increase the production values quite a bit. There’s also the fact that, unlike other games of this kind, there isn’t much in the way of progressive jackpots, which makes everything feel somewhat anti-climactic if you play for long enough. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as you can simply play longer and have more chances of winning, but it’s harder to get invested in it when there’s not that over arching urgency to it all.
We also wish they would have included a little more bonus features than just the free spins mode. We certainly enjoyed that, but it would have gone a long way to make things feel less monotonous if you sit down for play sessions that are longer than a half an hour. Little things like that go along way, which we wish the developer would have taken care in considering.
General Style and Presentation
The game is a very low-key Looney Tunes, being made on somewhat of a new grounds flash budget, but looking a little more upscale given the quality of the expressions on the characters themselves. Everything looks a little bit cheaper around the edges, but still manages to make you smile. It’s kind of like going into an old diner that has tables that have been around forever with all kinds of accidents on them, but in some ways, still manages to add to the character of the place.
We do enjoy the way everything looks very cohesive and comes together, however, which is top notch in and of itself. They did not spare any expense when it comes to making sure all the features are present, and everything is fittingly stylized in the same way, all being very harmonious and cohesive. It was clearly made with a lot of care and attention to detail, and we really do appreciate every last bit of that, and our hats are off to the artist themselves!
Summing Up the Game
Funk Chicks Slots is a game that we had a very good time with, despite acknowledging it’s many limitations. There are certainly far better games out there on the on the on slot world, but a few that will make you smile quite as much. It’s a game for people that love cartoons, charisma, and possibly grew up with Looney Tunes. If you did not, however, you can still have a good time, and it may even be an introduction for you into that style of imagery!
